Sightseeing Athens

Athens offers so much to see and do with excellent sightseeing tours available.

It's also a wonderful and easy place to walk and see on one's own. These are a few suggestions that should not me missed.

Acropolis & Parthenon
One of the ancient worlds wonders. It's looked over Athens for centuries and a must see. Best to go early in the morning, beat the crowds and the midday sun as limited shade.

National Archaeological Museum
The largest museum in Greece and truly unforgettable. From Syntagma Square area close to an hours walk but we think worth the effort ... click to view official website

New Acropolis Museum
Well presented and newly opened. It houses finds from the slopes of the Acropolis and more. Note closed on a Monday .... click to view official website

Sounion The Temple of Poseidon
Set on a headland with fine views of the Aegean Sea. This makes a fine day away from the city. Close to Syntagma Square, you can get a local bus, it will take you down and along the coast to Sounion. Plan to go in the morning as its a great place to have lunch before you return.

Plaka
The old part of Athens with it's winding streets, shops and Tavernas. The perfect place for lunch or dinner ... sit in one of the many Tavernas and watch the world pass by.

Getting Around Greece

Air: Main International Airport is Athens "Elefthérios Venizélos". Flights are also available, many on a seasonal schedule in to other towns and the islands. Athens Airport Information.

Ferries: The port of Piraeus just outside of Athens offers ferries to the islands. These are also available between the various islands. Ferry Information.

Rail: A regular rail service is available between Athens and Piraeus also the Airport.

Cruise Ships: Dock in Piraeus with the train and taxis available to Athens.
